As a property owner or manager in the District of Columbia, the most important new regulatory system you should be aware of for 2021 is the Building Energy Performance Standards or BEPS. BEPS was a major aspect of the 2018 Clean Energy DC Omnibus Act and established one of the first minimum thresholds for building efficiency in the nation. DC’s commitment to this vision is spelled out in the Clean Energy DC Omnibus Act of 2018. The Building Energy Performance Standard (BEPS) program is one of the first programs established by the District to help achieve these aggressive goals – BEPS sets forth specific energy performance thresholds that building owners will be required to meet by 2026.
